[Bower enters the programme with footage of him treading down some crop, as he walks towards Segar. When he reaches him, the interview commences]
Segar: Well, Doug, you made a pretty good job of this corn circle [which they are standing in].
Bower: Thanks, Rupert. Well, it’s quite simple, as you see. All that’s required is a piece of 2-by-1 and a rope around [holds his stomper for Segar and the camera to see]. We started in 1978, and we went public, so to speak, in the newspaper in 1991.
Segar: So for all those years it was kept an absolute secret.
Bower: Yes, even from my wife. My wife didn’t know for seven years.
Segar: Right, Doug, you made the circle but what’s the rest of the design going to be like today?
Bower: Well, before you can do anything really, you’ve got to make a little bit of a drawing [produces drawing of formation from his pocket]. What I intend to do now is to do a straight line, right across this cornfield [traces his finger along the drawing], until we reach the other end where we will do another circle there.
[footage of circle being made, set to music]
Segar: Well, Doug, you’re nearly there [Bower is still at work].
Bower: Any farmers about?
Segar: No, I think you’re in the clear so far.
Bower: [Holding piece of string taut, with Segar holding the other end] Rupert, there’s slack. Hold it tight!
Segar: Alright. I’m sorry. What, like this? [pulls the string]
Bower: [Rebukes Segar] Well, I did offer you to come out with me!
Segar: Alright, Doug, I’ll try and do it properly.
Bower: Right.
[End of sequence, as footage changes to show other speakers, then later returns to Bower, standing inside the circle]
Segar: [voiceover talking about UFOs and unexplained phenomena]
Bower: How do you think aliens could ever do anything like this? If they’ve got the technology to come thousands of light years through space, what are they doing down in a farmer’s field, treading down corn? After all, it’s only flattened corn, isn’t it?!
