Introduction
The headline, right, appeared on the front page of the British newspaper, Today, on Monday 9 September, 1991.
Pictured are the hitherto unknown Doug Bower and Dave Chorley, two men from Hampshire, who, according to the story, had "confessed" that it was they who were behind the crop circles, and had been making them ever since creating the very first British ones in 1978. Many took this to mean they had invented and hoaxed the entire phenomenon! The article itself contained details of their claims, and was followed up with further revelations over the next two days. From here on, the subject of crop circles would be changed forever, as their claims that the entire phenomenon was a prank took hold. The purpose of this website is to challenge their story, and try to develop a new perspective on the hoax claims. |
A word to the novice: much of this site is written with the assumption that those reading it will know much of the context and history of this saga. Advance knowledge is quite important in understanding many of the points raised - for example, I don't explain the role of individuals such as Busty Taylor, Paul Fuller or Michael Green - I just mention them as I go. That's the way it needs to be, for the sake of making the case without too much digression.
The pages available here are presented in a logical sequence, and much like the chapters of a book, are intended to be read through in order. The site is not intended for casual entertainment, but rather seeks to build a factual case drawing on evidence. The information is structured to present its arguments in a logical sequence and we recommend that it is read that way.
However, readers are of course free to dip in and out as they please. Enjoy!

Update 2018: video summary of the Doug and Dave hoax
|
In December 2018, a video exploration of the Doug and Dave saga was uploaded to the YouTube channel, Think Anomalous. It was researched and written by Jason Charbonneau, and offers by far the most accurate summary of the problems which arise in the Doug and Dave story. You can watch it here. Many of the points raised in the video are also discussed at length on this website, where references to the duo's various claims can also be found. |
